random road trip notes

I'm sure it's no shock, but we were really, really excited to go on our road trip this summer. Really excited. So we took a lot of photos. Photos of random things sometimes, but for some reason they tickled our fancy at the time. We took photos of each state line we passed, of all of the old people with dry cleaning hanging in their backseats, of motorhomes we liked, of funny food we bought, etc. We were trying to entertain ourselves. Here are a few:

Our first day of the trip. Entering Oklahoma. A different person took a photo with each state's sign.

We saw this ham sandwich sign for miles and miles and miles. If the kids had been awake, we would have stopped. I mean, what kind of ham sandwich warrants 239 signs about it?!?

Gas stations in Oklahoma PROUDLY had signs up that they had NO ethanol in their gas. Other states PROUDLY displayed signs that they DID have ethanol. Are Oklahoma-ians anti-corn?

Some of the trails we crossed...

California Trail
Pony Express Route
Oregon Trail
Mormon Pioneer Trail

Oklahoma had these signs on the highway before each town. It was interesting to see what the town thought was "sign-worthy."

Entering Kansas

On the Kansas tollroad, there were pit stops that had gas, tourist info, rest stop, etc. They were all in the middle of the highway and you exited on the left. So each side of the highway could access it. I thought that was clever.

Entering Nebraska

In the middle of Nowhere in Nebraska, I bought this bottled water. It was hilarious.

This symbol really bugged Don. He thought it should have been a covered wagon or something.

We crossed this trail over and over and over again. The kids kept saying, "Look! Lewis and Clark are here, too!"

Entering Iowa. We weren't huge fans of Iowa. We did stay in a lovely hotel and ate great BBQ there, but the highways weren't as nice as the other states. We learned to be discerning about things like that. lol

The last day of the trip. I think car fever had set in for Sunshine.

Coming back into Texas. If everything is bigger in Texas, why does our sign at the state line stink?
