day at the zoo

The Fort Worth Zoo is amazing, most definitely the best zoo I've been to and I've been to a lot of zoos in a lot of states.

This month they held their Fall Home School Day, when admission is discounted and they have extra workshops and events throughout the day. We went along with another family of public school dropouts, who Sunshine went to school with for two years. Their mom is really into "themes" like me and brought along safari hats, glasses, and binoculars for the kids to wear. Good fun.

First off, we attended a workshop where they got to walk penguins march about

hold a python

and have a vulture fly over our heads. Eek!!!

Each animal grouping had scheduled "keeper chats," where their keeper explained something fun about them and we got to watch them eat.

One keeper thought it was appropriate to let the children play with the worms this bird is about to eat. Not suprisingly, Sunshine was all over that.

We saw the girls' favorite animal - the flamingo.

We visited the reptile house, where the girls fell in love with this freaky gecko thingie.

Buddy caught up with his distant uncle, who was shockingly smart, but way too active for polite society.

The kids had lot of fun, and we'll definitely be going back soon. They do host a Spring Homeschool Day, as well.
